Backing up Google data

If you have a free Google account, you have to use Google Takeout, which is cumbersome, but will let you keep your data if you lose access to your Google account.

This process has four steps:

  1. Tick the data to be exported (default works well, but will create a large archive)
  2. Select how to deliver, including saving to Google Drive or Dropbox, and if the task should be repeated
  3. Wait for the archive to be created
  4. Download the archive

The fourth step is recommended but not as necessary, if you chose to save the file to Dropbox, OneDrive or Box.
